Getting closer...I can almost taste it.

I finish my certified nursing assistant class in two weeks in which I plan on getting a job at a hospital with the certification. I will have an increase in pay $12-15/hr, gain full benefits, overtime, etc. my girlfriend is doing it with me and sometime soon we plan on taking our pooled savings and buying our own place. Which means I can finally stop looking at everyone else's pictures and have some balls, bloods, and carpets of my own. This thought is driving me to the near edge of my sanity but in a good way, it's pure motivation. Me and my girlfriend will be attending college this next spring as well to get our AS in nursing. I may go on to get my NP degree as well. But anyways just wanted to say that waiting does pay off in the end even if it doesn't seem that way. I'm so glad to be part of the BP.net community and thanks for those who have helped me along the way.

I plan on trying to make more appearances on here more often, but with school, work, teach myself Japanese, working out, and sleeping there isn't much time.

Congrats Kevin, im happy for you. I know youve been working hard for this for awhile.

For a little added motivation, i know the cna's at my work get shift diff for getting called in and some get up to 60hrs+ a week with overtime. Plus if you get into the right place you get more for working nites, 11-7, and get double time on holidays.

Be sure to post pics when you get a new place and again when you start getting some new critters!

I can't wait to move out officially and have my own stuff and get more animals. My gf wants to breed hedgehogs so I'll have my hands busy with that too haha.

Our company name went from A&K Reptiles to A&K Exotics because there are plans for hedgehogs, sugar gliders, and numerous parrot species as well haha. Plus a couple litters of lab puppies.

Ha no not exotic but it's on the list. I love chocolate labs. My last girl sandy only lived a day before her 6 month birthday when I had to put her down because her hind end was so deformed so I vowed to get another when I move out. She was the light of my life when she was here.

1. Will you be making $12-15/hr or are you going to be making $12-15/hr MORE than you currently make?
2. Have you considered working on your BSN instead of the AS? If not, you should. You're looking at nearly double the salary.
3. Who on EARTH in the medical field wants to work 8 hour shifts?! 12's are where it's at! Full time is 3 days a week, so every weekend is a 4 day weekend!
4. It's not really a question, but congrats, man. Welcome to the fold. I took a LOOOONG road to the medical field myself, but I couldn't be happier. I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing.

I currently make $8/hr with no overtime or benefits....and I work easily 45-50 hours a week.

2. Have you considered working on your BSN instead of the AS? If not, you should. You're looking at nearly double the salary.

Every hospital around my area pays pretty much the same no matter the nursing degree. My mom does billing for UHS and she talks to the nurses a lot and they all just get the associates degree because the only real bonus for the bachelors is the ability to be a nursing manger. But the base rate of pay is the same here.

I figure on 12 hour shifts and expect nothing lower from what I've been told.
