Would pairing in July be considered early, or LATE?? Hmmmm. Considering my clutch (only one for this season) was just laid yesterday, I'd call it the latter - as it's still very much the 2011-2012 season for me!

But seriously, I usually don't start pairing until October or November. Not that it matters in our climate, so I guess year-round breeding would work just as well... although it seems most snakes still lay in spring-summer, regardless of when you start pairing. Or am I wrong?

I actually only just stopped pairing, because I haven't seen any locks in a month. And everyone is super-hungry right now, so I figure I should concentrate on getting everyone back up to size.

I did start introducing some of the boys to their new girlfriends. But then I opened a tub with a rat in my hand and found TWO ball pythons jumping out, ready to eat my face. I got a latch-and-wrap bite from my sweet little pied male when I went to move him into a separate tub from his girlfriend. And while I'm sticking a pencil in his mouth, his crazy girlfriend is taking pot shots at me. Bleurgh!

At least he's eating. He's so skinny.

I'm still pairing a couple females, but not religiously, I doubt they will go for me this year. I will be back in full swing breeding by November.
