Rough or smooth green snake care sheet?

I just got back from vacation and I caught 2 green snakes. I read that the smooth green snake can reach about 2 feet max, but the rough green snake can get a bit larger. I'm not sure which one I have. They feel smooth but I don't know what a rough one would feel like. Either way, is there much difference in care? Does anybody have a good care sh Any helpeet? they are young and pretty calm, so i think they will make goood pets if they'll eat for me. Any help is welcomed!

Where did you catch it? Smooth green snakes have a more northern range, WI, MI, PA, NY, Lower ontario. There scales are smooth. A 2 foot smooth green snake would be huge. Rough Green snakes are more southern in their range, have keeled scales (ridge in the center of the scale) and get to be about 3 ft in length.

Northern New Mexico in the mountains. I think they're smooth green snakes, even though that is so southern. The scales are even hard to find cause they are so smooth. How big does a smooth green snake get?

The smooth greens will max out around 20 inches but that is not typical. 14 to 16 inches is really what you will find most often as an adult. They are a cooler climate snake, which if you found them in the mountains is a pretty good indicator, so heating won't really be an issue. I think their diets consist mostly of insects, worms, some small frogs, maybe a newt, pretty similar to a small Garter snake. I would think you could find some pretty good info just Googling them. I have two Roughs that I caught when they were around two weeks old (well actually I caught several babies and kept two females). From what I learned the roughs would reach out to be 2-3 feet and like to eat dusted crickets because they're insectevores. Have a tall glass enclouser that is at least 20 gal (they do much better with more room and climbing space). Also if you can have some real tree branches in there because well, they're used to climbing on real trees and such. Also if the scales are keeled (scales overlapping each other) then its a roughy, if the sclaes are flat then its a smooth. Also there are certain regulations in some states that you cant keep smooths. Like I read in texas yu cant because they are limited in numbers. Have a normal humidity and have a good life with the cute little snake!

Also I dont think there should be any diffrence in care between the rough and smooths. Also baby roughs are kinda greyish in color (and super cute!). But do check your staes laws to see if owning a smooth is legal!!

I let them go. I need to focus on my corns anyways, so it was for the best.
