    Exclamation What just happened?!

Husbandry: sterilite 41 qt tub, hot spot 90. Cool side 80. Humidity 57%

Tonight I was LITERALLY woken my from sleep by this loud noise coming from my corner, it sounded a grown man passing gas, IT.WAS.LOUD.

I realize it had to be coming from my BP, she is exactly 712g as of yesterday.

I open her tub to find a MASSIVE, and I mean MASSIVE poo. There was one big piece that looks like it came from a medium sized dog, and the rest splattered everywhere. And I mean everywhere, across the tub, on the lid...everywhere. As I inspected it I saw a hint of blood in her stool. And some blood around her cloaca. I noticed she has not pooped for 2 weeks, only released urates.

Could this be her just cause her poo built up and now she is just "letting loose" ??

She is acting completely fine, I'm cleaning her tub now.

Has anybody had this happen?! I've never heard something like that come from a snake EVER. Is the blood something to worry about? She ate a 90g rat last Friday the 20th. I just don't know what to do

I do have pictures if it is necessary.

    Re: What just happened?!

Ive read that ball pythons produce a lot of noise when they pass gas, so that very well could have just been that, but blood in the stool would worry me. In other animals such as dogs bloody stool can indicate a high stress level, or internal bleeding. Im not sure if the same hold true with herps though. Ive never read about bloody stool in snakes before. Im sorry if this isnt much help = ( I hope someone else has encountered a similar situation.

Yes, they can fart, and it can be pretty loud. I don't think the blood should be too concerning at this point. The tissue around the cloaca is delicate and if the "log" was really big, it might have torn a little bit, and that's where the blood is from. It's a common occurrence when they shed, too.

i had my large female do that once. she was abt 3500 grams at the time. it sounded like a person pushed too hard and messed thierself. i blamed my fiance till i looked in the tub and found splatter everywhere. there was a small amount of blood in her stool as well. this was about a year and a hlf ago and she is doing just fine. she just gave us 6 huge healthy eggs.

Yeah her "log" was massive lol

So I'm guessing it tore her cloaca a little. I'll keep an eye on her, but I'm glad its nothing serious to worry about

Haha, my husband has heard ours fart, I haven't. I wouldn't worry about the blood to much, if it was big and over due, it may have just stretched things a little too far.
