when should I wiegh my snakes?

A lot of times I weigh them when I have them out of their tubs and right after a poo. If they don't poo for a while I weigh on the weekends.

Me: When someone asks "What do they weigh"

I've never really understood the whole weighing thing. My girls breed when they are 3+ years, never before - even if they are HUGE...

Babies are "babies" and they weigh "less than adults" If they are eating, that's all that matters to me.

I weight them semi-regularly so when they DO go off feed (which they almost always do eventually), I can track any weight loss to evaluate whether I need to pull them from breeding, get a vet check, etc. To me, weight is more important in sub-adults and adults than it is for hatchlings, although it is helpful in planning my feeders to know everyone's approximate weight.

Re: when should I wiegh my snakes?

I standardize weighing for all my snakes. All of them (no matter what species) get weighed as I put them into their feeding tubs (I have the feeding tubs on the scale so when they go into the tub, I can read off the weight). Then again, I'm paranoid about my animals not gaining weight, so I'm pretty obsessive about weighing them weekly.

I do it on a monthly basis right around the same time every month. I try to wait till they poo which means its usually the day after I clean out tubs.

I like to wait after they defecate, although the best time (in my opinion) is right after they shed, because then it's been a while since they last ate so they are less likely to still have something in the digestive tract.
