I like to watch them once they know its time to eat and smell the food. It seems like my younger ones get excited and start breathing really fast but the older ones breath really slowly, stop completely, and tense up right before they strike.

As ricky said my breathing rate varies alot too depending on what im doing.

Yes. thats fine haha.

Ball pythons have 2 lungs but one is very small and underdeveloped. The other one is long and goes a good length of their body. So it takes a bit longer for that one big long lung to fill all the way up, let all the oxygen be taken out by blood, and exhaled again. Im not sure if all snakes have lungs like that so thats why i just said BP's. Also thats just my theory which i think is probably pretty accurate but im not a doctor lol.
