Had to share this little gem of a conversation [warning: may induce facepalming]

WARNING: the people used foul language which I blocked out. It's the internet though, and most people haven't learned how to make their point without spewing profanities at everyone.

A guy posted a video of himself feeding his ball/boa collection on Youtube. He had them in a rack set-up and had paper towel bedding.

Ignorant guy: "you dumb *** you should take out the paper towel when you feed...."
OP: "They get cleaned 3 days after feeding so chill out heavy metal jerk!"
Ignorant guy: "you ******' ignorant monkey you should not even be keeping snakes if you don't even know that the snake might swallow the paper towel while devouring the meal... please give away your snakes before they die... ohh and you sound like a ***... put a little bass in your voice you sound of music watchin' mother******...LOL
(I had to jump in at this point): "I wish I could find some way to show the magnitude of the facepalm I would need to do to express your stupidity... Snakes won't swallow a paper towel, especially if they didn't even grab it in the first place."

Someone else posted down the way about the rack system: "maybe you've been tagged because you treat them like s***...you go live in a ******' cell for life. You give reptile owners like myself a bad name."

I dont read the comments on vids for this reason! I freak out and get all hotheaded about this stuff. I hate it when people who have no idea what they are talking about start spewing their stupidity all over the internet! But there is always one and that will never change.

Yeah, the first guys pretty backwards. The second however...that's a matter of opinion instead of a misconstrued fact.

Some dog breeders keep their dogs in kennels all the time and some free range them around the house. Just what you prefer. However, who wants to keep tons of glass tanks around? Thats an accident waiting to happen in my opinion, haha.

The only reason I put that last one in is because it wasn't personal preference. They were saying that the reason one of the BP's was bitey was because the guy kept it in a tub, which is false. As long as the enclosure is a proper size, aggression should have nothing to do with it.

Plus the guy had at least 10+ snakes, and who wants to completely clean 10+ glass tanks every month? Tubs are definitely easier with multiple snakes.

While I don't like the fact that these people felt they needed curse words to try to get their point across, I'm going to have to play devil's advocate here.

There HAVE been cases where the snake eats the paper towel, either because it got caught up with the prey, or "juices" got on the towel and the snake ate it later thinking it was food. They've also eaten cloth towels and, although I couldn't confirm this one, a heating pad that was in the cage. O_o

The snakes in question either pass it, regurge it, or die.

My opinion on feeding videos will stay out of this, but it's because of the silly over-reactive poo throwing arguments that I just don't read youtube comments anymore. Something about people not agreeing with their opinion on a video just seems to make them more and more stupid with each addition, haha.

A friend of mine thinks that keeping my snakes in tubs is barbaric, but thankfully we've reached a point where we agree to disagree. Both having healthy animals we're able to talk about our other herp interests

One of Alice Coopers boas ate a heating pad once. On a show I watched he went to take him out and his mouth was plugged into the wall. He took the boa to the vet and they did surgery to remove the heat pad. The snake lived and now is in a zoo somewhere. I had a ball grab the paper towels once. I had to open her mouth and use a sexing probe to pick the towel out of her teeth. So it can happen. Just be careful.

Yep, I had a hatchling start swallowing a paper towel, too, and retrieved it. You do have to watch and be careful when using paper towel.

My point was that if the snake grabbed the mouse without grabbing the paper towel, it's highly unlikely that they will end up eating the paper towel. I acknowledge that it could happen, but the guy was overboard with his comment. I would assume that since he had a larger collection and all of them looked healthy and they were eating that he was at least competent enough to make sure his snakes weren't eating the bedding.

Ya I'm with fen I think it is possible for it to happen but unlikely under the circumstances, but if any of you haven't noticed everyone is an expert and some are a little to slow to put digestible thought into words without trying to curse you out or make you look stupid and them brilliant. You should see the crap I am given for keeping my bps on paper aside from the fact I learned it from RDR. The mulch purists hate me for some reason and think it will dry them out, 1 tuff shed in 2 years not to bad.
