I've tried quitting smoking several times and they all ended in failure.
One of these days though I'll get it done.

No i really do. Because if i was addicted and was able to just stop cold turkey then i would consider myself one of a rare breed of super humans.

I am addicted to ball pythons so that counts, but thats not a negative addiction like smoking imo.

Those electronic cigarettes that Coleslaw mentioned are cool. My friend used to use them but i think they are kinda expensive.

Yes! I quit almost 3 years ago.
I was in the Middle East this summer and EVERYONE smokes there. All of the old cravings came back, and I almost gave in a couple times.
A brisk walk and a glass of water always help, though.

Reach for the stars, and if you don't grab them at least you'll fall on top of the world.

    Well don't do it lol.
I don't trust those ecigs much. They taste weird like really chemically (not that cigarettes don't but you know what I'm saying lol) and I'm just waiting to read about negative side effects from them.

I only get cravings when I'm drunk or under the influence of various other intoxicants.

When I quit it was for the right reason - because I did not want to smoke anymore. Lots of people say they want to quit - and that's fine - but wanting to quit is not the same as not wanting to smoke anymore. I was living in the caribbean at the time and the heat and humidity were oppressive at times. I would smoke a morning cig through the foggy air that was already hard to breathe and it just stopped being enjoyable. The fact that I was physically impairing my body hadn't ever been that clear to me. It also helped that I had to hike 5 miles every morning just to get to a road to hitchhike on. Try smoking while power walking 5 miles. See if it's relaxing.

I waited until my body was physically withdrawn from the cigarette before smoking one every single time I smoked one. The amount of time between those withdrawals went from 2 hours to 4 hours to 12 hours, 1 a day, every other day, once a week, and now only when I'm messed up. I know I'll wake up feeling like I don't want to smoke anymore. The smell, feeling, and even 'cig hangover' are all much more bothersome to me now-a-days.

GL and learn to hate the bad things about them rather than remember the good things. There are no good things - the chemicals lied to your body.

I quit in 1988. Sometimes - yes, the urge does come back. When it does, I take a deep (very deep) breath and remind myself that I could not do that nearly as well when I smoked. I also remember the food that didn't taste quite as good. Then I remember my dad, who died of cancer two years ago. He had cancer a few times (was a smoker), but this last time it had moved into his lungs. I was there holding his hand the moment he passed. It is not an easy or pleasant death and I will never smoke cigarettes again.

One of the things that got me through to quitting was flossing my teeth. I found that I missed the ritual with the hands. Reach for the pack - tap it down - pull out a cigarette - put the pack away - tap the cigarette down - pull out the lighter - light. When flossing, the hands were kept busy pulling out the floss, pulling a thread off, wrapping it around your fingers, putting it between the teeth, etc. It is actually a habit that I keep to this day. My dental appointments are much easier now!

Hang tough. You don't need to smoke.

Those e cigarettes are actually what got me started smoking in the first place... I think those were a terrible idea because all the kids running around getting a hold of them will end up smoking real cigarette sense they thought trying harmless nicotine water vapor would be ok... I don't know about now but back when they first came out you didn't even have to show Id to buy them because they aren't a "Tobacco product" which makes them even more available to the kids...

When I quit I had the flu i think. I did it cold turkey. Just woke up, said I quit, and went about my day (although I'm sure I wasn't pleasant to be around for a while hahaha!) I really only miss the physical part of it. It was nice to have some alone time and I liked the smoke.

I think I'll mix punching myself in the face and smelling an ashtray and just hit myself in the face with an ashtray hahaha!
