Mites :(

So my normal has mites in her tank It is very annoying, I have been using dirasic mite or something like that. I'm going to switch her to a tube so I can get the tank bleached and everything. Would appreciate any help I can get about setting up a tube. going to make a home depot run later. Was thinking about using a dimmer for the uth, since it is only a temporary home. The mites have not affected her appetite, she just like to soak alot. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks guys

You need PAM. (Provent A Mite) it is the best stuff out there. simply bleaching the tank isn't going to completely get rid of your issue. you need something that works over a period of time that not only kills the adults but their eggs too.

I wouldn't change caging as mites are stressful enough as it is. You should continue to use the tank with paper towels for substrate and make sure that your temperatures/humidity are prefect.

Soaking 2 times a day in warm water (mid 80's remember what feels warm to you feels hot to a cold blooded snake) with a drop or two of dawn dish soap will help as well.

Completely changing his environment probably isn't the best idea... especially if you don't have experience getting temperatures/humidity right in tubs.

Wanted to do a dry run, wanted to add another snake in the future. So I was going to be setting one up. Just don't really know how to. Thanks for your replies your awesome!

If you want to learn how to set up a tub then this thread will help. I strongly suggest a good thermostat over a dimmer, and keep in mind that the air temperature inside the tub will be the same as the air temperature in the room that it is in. This means that the room cannot get below 75 degrees

*note* PAM does not kill the eggs. It only kills adults / fresh hatches. You have to re-pam 2 weeks after initial use in order to kill any remaining eggs that hatch. Good luck

Don't use anything Cedar or Pine. These woods contain oils that are toxic to snakes. In fact, the next time you go to a store that sells pesticides, take a look at some of the snake repellants. The active ingrediant in alot of them is cedar or cedar oil...

I have heard of people using hand fills of cedar bedding to kill mites. Not sure of a few handfuls would be bad for snakes. Could take care of mites? Wonder If anyone has tried I don't think I could lol.
