A hiding ball python is a happy ball python. If yours is cruising the tank that's generally a sign of stress. I'm guessing that's what your question is pertaining to?

breathing heavily is something that a scared snake will often do. I'm sure this is what you are witnessing with your snake. It isn't a sign of illness unless its accompanied by a wheezing, popping, or whistling sound.
