My advice for someone just starting is to get a rack! That way you're ready for a few more ASAP, and a few more won't take up any more space than the first one. I promise you will enjoy the hobby much sooner with a rack!

We are planning on building a rack system eventually. Probably around the time I get a male (1-1.5yrs) Trying to keep costs at a minimal right now as to not sticker shock my wonderful understanding hubby. I have a 29g tank (I know, tanks aren't that great) for her right now. Hides and waterbowl, check. Debating cypress or paper towels as bedding...need to pick up a decent heat mat and t-stat and I think I'm set. (already have a temp gun, screen lid with attached wood for humidity control) I plan on not using a bulb for heat, just the UTH currently. (Unless I notice once everything is set up that ambient needs to be raised) I live in florida, so the humidity without anything in the tank sits around 50%, I'll tweak that once I get the setup going fully (without her obviously) I want it perfect for her when she comes home ^_^ Alexis, what kind of questions did you have? I'm sure the community would be happy to help

I think a lesser is a great choice! But don't be surprised if you end up with way more than two ball pythons within the next year. We all say we are going to wait to get more, then none of us do. It really is an addiction!
My best advice, start with tubs and save yourself all the trouble of buying a glass tank and then having to scrap it.
You've come to the right place to learn everything about ball pythons! Welcome and have fun!

I know what you mean, but I have a glass tank already sitting empty in my house. So its more cost effective at this time to use it for my new girl and wait a bit to build the rack. I'm sure I will be upgrading to a rack soone than I think, but one sstep at a time right now lol. Though I do love the idea and (presumably) ease of set up of the xpvc racks I've seen built on the DIY boards! I'll get there ;-)

You don't need a rack for a tub setup. I had a tank. It's a huge pita to keep
Temps and humidity proper.
