Identifing YB in combos....

I just hatched out bee X yb clutch so I have some good clutchmates to use for comparison.

First pic - spider and a spider yb. Can you see the difference?



what about in this one? Bumblebee and a Bumble belly.



They just shed so after I get a couple mice in them I'll post another comparison shot.

I think I see it. The spider yb and the bumble belly have flames where as a normal spider combo would not. Also, the spider yb is quite a bit brighter

Yup you got it the flames in the black stripes are from the YB.

Thanks for the pictures. It is a great comparison. In the first pic it appears the YB Spider is the hatchling whos head is on the right and whos body passes through the coil of the other. In picture 2 it is the hatchling on the right. Correct?

Yep - the flames give it away.....

Yeah especially in the spiders there is definitely a difference there but for the bees I do see the flames on the one on the right! Very nice!

I strugle with yb in combos a lot. Does the bee on the left of this picture have enough flaming to possibly be a bumblebelly? I need to get better pics of her as she is outrageously bright but I don’t have experience with bumblebees to now if they all start out that nice.

Wow - that one on the left is stunning. Nice and clean and very reduced. I'd be real interested in seeing the belly, the black lines down the sides are pretty solid black with some blushing, but I don't see the flames.

It almost looks like you have some other gene in play. The head looks vanilla-ish. What is that one on the right?

These are sisters from chocolate (Garcia line) pastel yb X spider. Consensus is that the one on the right is a chocolate pastel spider yb (her belly pic here).



I don't know of anything other than pastel spider and possibly yb that could be in the one on the left and I don't have a belly pic of her handy but will try to get one tonight time permitting. In some ways I like her better than the one on the right but I can’t pass up picking the 4 gene girl as my hold back for her breeding potential.

Right - I saw your post on the 4 gene combo. Very nice!!

Here are a couple more shots of a few I've produced in the past. My bee's tend to be pale yellow while anything YB turns bright yellow. And the belly tends to be very telling.
