    Talking Newbie here, opinions?

First off I'd like to say thank you to the BP & herp community, after browsing this and other forums for the past...well forever it seems, I've learned so much. I've seen so many people willing to help etc. So thank you all, for being an awesome community. I'm getting my first Ball Python (hopefully) in about a month. (Daytona breeder's expo) Assuming I find a beautiful female I want. So here's where my question comes into play..I was planning on getting a female Lesser hatchling, as I hope to one day (you know, like 2.5-3yrs down the road) breed a pair. I'm not looking to make a quick buck or anything of the sort, I just feel that breeding a pair is something I would love to do. I wanted to get a female first, and have her for a year to year and a half then get a male. I also wanted to start out with a female that is visually different from the norms (though, I have seen some gorgeous norms on here!) and had some decent breeding combo potential. My initial price range for a female is 300-350 or less. Do you think a Lesser is a good choice? What would you start with if you were starting over? (in that price range ) Thanks for any opinions and input!

    Re: Newbie here, opinions?

Wouldn't you know it, the first opinion you get is from another newbie w/one snake to her name! Well, I wrestled over the decision too, and female lesser was high on my list. I finally got a female mojo because I saw one available that I liked and could meet in person before buying. That was under two months ago, and now I'm thinking about what my next 3 or 4 should be, LOL! Just thinking now, a lesser that's het for something else might be even more fun to breed with (but more $ of course). I'll be picking up a lesser or butter soon for sure, maybe het hypo. Let us know what you decide!

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the base morphs. You certainly couldn't go wrong with a nice lesser, doesn't matter how new you are. I love my lesser girl, but then again I say that about all of my reptiles lol

Thanks for the replies I think I'm set on the Lesser...but who knows.. might get distracted with all the gorgeous snakes at the show and end up with something else! ARGG I'm so excited...I can't wait! aug 18th needs to get here..like now!
Mojo's are really pretty too..Love the spider morph combos, (queen bee's, lesserbee's, killer bees and all mixes) ...too many darn choices! My husband is pacing the floors lol I think he's afraid we'll be overrun with bp's before he knows it
Edit: Oh yes! Must have a fire too someday!

Hello, and to BP.net. I'm more of a fan of Woma BP's, Genetic Stripes, and Genetic Banded BP's. But that is just me...

    Re: Newbie here, opinions?

I would suggest thinking about what you would like to eventually have as a product of your bps. Once you have an idea of the direction you want to head in it will be much easier to decide on the female and male. Lessers are pretty cool though Good luck deciding!
    Herps are cool.

One of the attractions of outdoor pursuits activities for many people is that life is reduced to the barest essentials, and in the process a more intimate connection to the natural world is established. Food that would be trashed or fed to the dog at home tastes wonderful, a cup of murky water is much appreciated, and after a few days, even a thin sleeping pad can feel like a comfortable mattress as tired bones are able to rest after a hard day's work.

When you go with a Lesser or Mojave you have Blue eye's in your future. "nough said" I'd go Lesser all the way.

BEL's are the reason I picked Lesser's to begin with But as I played more with the genetics wizard and found more and more morphs I liked...Oh my! Definitely want a HGWoma one day (if they ever get lower in price lol) and phantoms.... The Mystics have some awesome potential it seems too! I'll be sure to post when I get her!
