    Hatchling - Adult Racks?

I was wondering if there would be any reason to not have a rack with mixed ages of snakes in it? I don't plan on using racks much but it seems like the best way to go about a small quarantine room. I have seen a few DIY descriptions on building racks that can accommodate tubs for each size but have been surprised by not being able to find a manufacturer that produces a rack made to hold a mix of boxes from the standard sizes.

On that note has anyone had much experience with Animal Plastics doing custom orders? I think thesnakemerchant(Aaron) has just ordered the standard models with a few tweaks here and there.

I think there are a few reasons why there are none being made. Some people like back heat for hatchlings and belly heat for adults or vice a versa. And having different heating for a rack means you would usually need to 2 thermostats. The other reason I assume is because you would not be able to cool down your adults hotspot for breeding, without cooling down your babies as well. And tub size hatchling tubs are about 14-16 inches long where as adult tubs are 34-38 inches long. So the rack would look weird with a big bottom and small top, and with this structure it would be hard to stack them.

It all depends on the size of the tubs, 16 qt will usually fit with the 32 qt (if the same brand) because the height is similar. 41 qt, 6 qt, etc. are usually not, which you require you to make a specific rack for them. I've never seen a rack producer interchange between 41 qt to 16 qt, but I have with 16 and 32 qt. They usually will do that to make it easier for themselves and the people who buy them by keeping the various ages separated and easier to keep track of.

I have no experience with AP however, so I can't answer your second question...

For a custom designed rack, you're going to pay quite a bit. They have to reset their CNC machines to cut the materials to your dimensions and program all of that information into their CAD programs, all of which equals time and labor hours on their part. As to their quality of product and customer service, both are top notch. I just ordered my second rack from them; I have three of theirs, two of which I'll have purchased directly from them with one being a used pickup. Ali at Animal Plastics if AWESOME! to deal with and will respond almost right away if you e-mail her (apcages@wantapet.com) with what you have in mind as far as your rack ideas. Good luck!

I made one myself, pretty easy and cost effective. It is 6 levels each can hold 1 41qt tub or 3 12qt tubs, allows me to keep bps in different stages of life. About to build one for 12qt and 28qt tubs to put hatchlings and my males.
    Heres my rack

Hey! I have my racks custom made. Pm Breaking Balls, Brian. He just made these for me and they hold 32qt and 15 qt.

And I could put the same makers 6 qt on the rack but I would have to use the lids. But I would have to be careful about heat. And I do not cool my breeders down any more so thats not an issue...

Are those 10 high? Or are they stacked? If they are 10 high, do you know how many xpvc sheets he used for each? And possibly how he cut them? Also, how much did he charge you?

    Thanks,
    SC
