Monocyte levels

Does anybody know the normal monocyte percentage for red tail boa blood? Most snakes are 1-4% but some species vary. I need to know specifically for a red tail boa.

First, let me apolgoize. I thought this was a forum for people with interest and information regarding herps to help eachother. Secondly, the exotic vet specialist that did the blood work could not tell me specific monocyte levels for a red tail boa. Thirdly, she said the for most snakes it is 1-4%, I read (on google by the way, the only specific finding for red tail boas) that normal was about 27.7%. My snake is at 44%. If you could be so nice as to direct me to the loads of relevant results I would be ever so grateful.

Thank you for the link. It was actually a herp vet that gave me the info that for most snakes it is 1-4% which is consistent with the link you gave me (2.4, 3.8). She just did not know for red tail boa's specifically and she said she could not find info. for that species specifically. Unfortunately my girl is at 44% with no apparent explanation why. She is not showing any neurological signs of IBD. The monocyte count is done by hand and therefore relatively reliable, versus a piece of lab equipment that may not be calibrated properly. She is quite old and this happened in 2009 when her count was 58%, again with no explanation. Ran her on a course of baytril and metacam and she seemed to come out of it. Hate to start giving her injections again though if we don't know if it will help or what the cause is. Thanks again for the link, greatly appreciated.

Hmm that's really odd. If there is some sort of infection, which would be a likely cause, it must be a stubborn one. It looked like red tails might be able to carry IBD without it manifesting from what I skimmed. Hopefully she does okay for you.

No worries on the post. Appreciate the info. Vet did mention IBD but no symptoms at all and no exposure to other snakes so not sure where she might pick it up. I will just keep monitoring her. thanks again.
