UTH's used on the side?

I'm in the process of getting my first bp, and I bought a Reptitherm UTH 10-20g size. I don't have a tank stand, I've just been keeping the tank on a glass surface. Will the UTH work well used on the side or should I just go ahead and get a stand so I can mount it under?

Just get a couple of rubber "feet" or spacers to put under the four corners of the tank. This will allow airflow between the UTH and the table/bookcase/whatever.
