Rescued a BP today
I get this call from a friend of my cousin a few days ago, asking if I want a free snake. As one would imagine, I said sure, and asked what kind of snake. He (Greg) said it wasn't his, but a friend of his from work that just didn't want it anymore, and it was a two year old BP. So after work I go and pick it up.
I get there, and the snake looks like it could be 2 years old, but they had it in a 10 gallon tank, with no hide, an empty water dish, a light that didn't do a whole lot in a cold basement. Not to mention stuck shed, and it was really thin. So I take it home, and get it set up. Within 4 hours, there is no more stuck shed. Why don't people research their pets and take better care?
So I took a picture, got a weight (900 grams), and plan on leaving her (they said it was female, but I'll check that later) alone for a while.

Why would you find out how to take care of a pet when you only bought it because it was cool?
I mean, it's not like they have any feelings or anything, right?
Besides, if I have to take care of a pet, what's the point of getting one? I just want something I can point at and say, "Look what I have." I mean, feeding it ? Giving it water? Proper temperatures ? Who does all that ?
Congratulations on the new addition. I recently added a rescue of my own. 18 months old and a whopping 270 grams.

I always enjoy reading when a snake (or any animal) finds a proper home and is removed from horrible conditions. Thank you

Re: Rescued a BP today
I agree. I found my BP on Craigslist. It was a xmas gift for a 6 year old. Within six months he lost interest. When i went to take a look they had him in a forty gallon tank with a 10 watt fluorescent bulb sitting on top. It also had the worlds smallest water bowl and a log hide. It had some stuck shed and the owner wondered why it didn't move around more.
I turned his tank into a BP paradise and after a couple feedings he had a great shed and is active every night. He has a good life now. People need to research their pets more before they buy it on the cool factor.

Good job taking her/him in and getting "it" set up correctly. Give them a fighting chance and it's amazing how well they can do. I have one I took in, "Rancid", because that's what he was! Poor guy looks like a prizefighter: scars all over his body from horrible sheds that pulled off several layers of skin, open wounds when I got him from the stuck sheds, waaaay under weight, etc. Little TLC ("...don't go chasin' waterfalls..." is his favorite lyric, lmao!), trip to the vet for a once-over and he's doing awesome! Normal boy or not, he's got a home with me as long as he wants it. Congrats and good job rescuing that one!

Good stuff, glad to hear she (?) ate a couple of rats, and F/T at that! Maybe the way to get them to switch is to starve them until they'll eat anything? Kidding, of course.
