    My Afghan Container Vegetable Garden

As promised, my container vegetable garden here at my FOB in Afghanistan. This one is a view of the whole thing.

This one is of the carrots (bottom left), radishes (bottom right), one of the tomato plants (top right) and the herbs that are germinating in pots at the moment (top left). This is actually the second crop of radishes. The first crop has already matured and been eaten with the second crop being planted where the first crop was taken from.

This one is of the other two tomatoes (bottom right and top left), the green onions (top right) and garlic that is just starting to come up (bottom left).

    Pepper plant.

Just sprouting are seeds of an Alaska mix Nasturium (a flower of which all parts of the plant are edible).

A close up of the herbs. I'm growing thyme, dill, rosemary and tarragon.

And finally, the first blooms on the tomato plant.

Thanks for looking. I'll update once a month so y'all can watch it grow with me (sorry that only I'll get to eat it)!

    Thanks man.

I never saw any at Anaconda or at Adder down in Dhi Qar Province, but we have had two now here at FOB Bullard in Zabul province, which is in RC South. I haven't seen them myself unfortunately, and also unfortunately both were killed by my ignorant and fearful compatriots. I love how as humans our response to things that we aren't educated about (and therefore fear) is to kill said things. Stupid primate traits that through evolution we've held onto! We're wicked smart in some ways and completely retarded in others!

Nice, can't wait for the updates too. And since I committed a crime from not growing tomatoes here is a pic of tomatoes that my future father in law is growing that I'll get some of.

Now hopefully I'll be forgiven of my blasphemy.

A crime, indeed, Chirs, but since you have repented and will now have fresh tomatoes... LOL I also see some cucumbers there, and let me say that I am JEALOUS! Oh well, next year's garden will make up for this one's shortfalls.

Mike, have you not read my introduction post? I am the most out of place soldier that you will likely ever meet! Give it a read if you want to scratch your head about how I came to have all of my world views.

Happy to serve David (or Dave?). And who would have know that Hesco baskets would make such great planters, huh? LOL I am torn because roots going through the dirt will make them inherently less able to take a blast, but the roots of what I am growing shouldn't be enough to make a difference at all. Now if I were growing trees, I would be worried, as this is right out front of my tent!
