Herpstat and Ultratherm.
Today is the day I finalize all hook ups. I just noticed that the Ultratherm UTH required tape unlike the Zoo Med. Not a big deal, I'll grab some at Home Depot.
I'm just curious as to how well the pads adhere to the tank since the edges are what's taped. I going to run my thermostat probe down the center of the Ultratherm, but it appears that there is a clear area in the center that separates the parts that conduct the heat. Should the probe go on one of the black parts or in between them?
Lastly, who here that uses an Ultratherm backs it with polystyrene? I was a little bummed when I opened it (UTH) today and found no sticky stuff to apply it with and now I'm going to have to get a sheet of polystyrene to cut as well, unless nobody does that here. Not the end of the world and nice that the pad is reusable. Just didn't want to make another store trip.
I have a bit of time so I'll check back for answers.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY.
Thanks,
Gio

I actually bought the ultratherms because they didn't have the adhesive stuff on them (and they seem more trustworthy). I'm just not a fan of sticking a pad permanently to anything, especially with all the tubs I switch around. When it comes to securing the pads I just used some aluminum tape we had lying around. And I don't use any backing when they're on solid surfaces. My tubs used to be on wire shelves with open sides and I just put plain 'ole cardboard with a covering of tin foil under the heat pads and tubs, worked just fine.
Can't help with the t-stat probe issue, I've been using dimmers since temperatures where the snakes are hardly fluctuate

the probe would need to be where the black parts are. They are a carbon resistive heater the black bits are the carbon.
