    Chilling in her water dish?

So my female has been chilling in her water dish for the past few days. It's not too hot on the warm side (according to the thermometer anyway) but apparently she thinks so? I was watching a video from Brian at BHB and he said they lay in their water to keep cool when they develop follicles so I was wondering if they may be the case? What do you think? Thanks

Have you completely ruled out mites and overheating?

Re: Chilling in her water dish?

Laying in the bowl can be a few things.

    Could be:

    Mites.
    Preparing to shed.
    Building follicles.
Wanting a more secure hiding area.
    Too hot.
    Too dry.

Check for all those things, and if none seem to apply, wait it out and see.

YUP. GOOD OLE' MITES. There were 2 in her water bowl and I didn't see any on her (im sure there are though) So now, what to do? The tub my male was in which is empty cuz he's in my new rack had a couple crawling around so I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to treat all 5 of my snakes. I dont have PAM at the moment but I want to treat them ASAP! What can I do? Thanks alot guys!

Clean the cage, replace substrate with newspaper, and soak her every day. That's all you can do really until the PAM arrives.

Re: Chilling in her water dish?

Soaking actually does drown the mites, so give her a nice long soak in some luke warm water to help get them off.

In the meantime, order PAM and Reptile Relief ASAP as those will be the most effective treatments. Check it out, we have a little guide on taking care of mites to help you out

Good luck! They're a pain, but they're not the end of the world.

What about my rack? They have to be crawling around in there. It's a wood rack with a smooth finish

You're going to have to PAM the whole thing when it comes it.
