    Hello!

I am brand new to this forumn. It looked like a good place for advice. Anyways, I got my first ball about four months ago. He is a lesser and after going to a few reptile shows, I'm wanting to breed him to a spider. BUT he is little. I weighed him last night and he is about 215g after eating three days ago. Everything I read said around 500g is the right breeding weight for a male and about 2500-3000 for a female. Okay so my question is do you think he will be ready by November to breed? And what size female should I start looking for now to have her ready by November as well? I Don't want to rush weight gain or anything I want to do alllll of this right so any advice is much appreciated

    Re: Hello!

It is possible for a male to breed around 500 thouhg it is reccommended that they be up closer to 800 or so just to make sure they are healthy. You would probably need to be feeding it weekly and even then I'm not sure it will be up to weight by November. Females, depending on age can be bred starting around 1500 grams. Some will do it around 1200 but that is pushing things a little. Finding a breeding size female could be challenging due to most people hold on to their good breeders. They will let go females that don't breed very well or throw funky eggs so that can be a challenging task. Welcome to the forums and good luck with your lesser

It will be difficult to find breeder size females for sale but not impossible. Keep in mind they will also be much more spendy. As far as size they dont necessarily need to be 2500-3000g to be breedable. I would say if you can find a girl that is around 1500g she is big enough to breed. Also age matters if you find a female spider who is 14 years old and hasnt bred at all or for many years I would avoid buying that snake.

As for your male it is very possible he will be ready to breed in november. I have heard of males smaller than 500g breeding at even 4-5 months of age though I personally wouldnt recommend that but thats just me.

Thanks! Yeah Its definitely difficult. I've looked all over kingsnake for one and so far I've only found small ones.

    Re: Hello!

Unless it sold in the last 2 hours I know there is at least one breeding size female spider on kingsnake. You might have missed her if you were only looking for 2500g.

As for small males breeding, I normally try them just for fun at around 300g and have about a 50% success rate. However, my rule is that if they are under 500g and they miss one meal they are done.

I think I found the one you are talking about aalomon, he wants 650 for her. Is that to much? She is 850g, should I keep looking or is this a decent price?

Why would you avoid that snake?
