Who has a Dumeril's Boa!?

Having some of those options in mind and the possibility a blood python, has anybody had a chance to evaluate the general qualities and nature of the above mentioned. (dwarf retic/burmese or blood VS Demeril's)

The Dumeril's sounds like a nice snake and with the similar husbandry to the B/P so it may be an easy step up if I ever take the step.

Thoughts just for fun?

From the videos and research I have done it is quite common for blood pythons to have a bad attitude however I have seen some that are quite docile and good natured and they have a reputation of eating like a pig. Again I have no personal experience but I have done a ton of reading up on bloods.

But with my experience with dumerils boas they are very gentle and like someone else mentioned they are curious but cautious so they dont tend to move around a lot while holding them like a lot of boas do but which makes them a much easier snake to handle despite their size.

I agree, most bloods I've ever worked with have had quite the attitude, but the biggest one I've ever worked with was a complete sweetheart. So it varies.

I don't think I've read up on and/or heard of anything about an aggresive/nippy Dumeril's ever

I've got three and frankly I'm not that wild about them. Mine seem to be rather nervous/highstrung snakes that refuse to eat most of the time yet have no problem taking a poke at me every time I open their tubs. Of course they're all siblings so it could just be genetics at work.

Our Dumeril's is the most docile snake in our collection and easily my favorite. Tetra is around 2 years old and well over 5ft. She does require a little more care then my BP or Sinaloan. I think that's another reason why I enjoy her so much.

I would also consider her husbandry a bit more similar to a Colubrid instead of a BP. My gril refuses to use a hot spot over 88F, ambient stays around 80F, and she likes a night drop between 74F - 78F. An increase in humidity during a shed cycle is the only similarity I see between Dumeril's and BPs. They can also be picky eaters. For example, I have to feed ours a P/K rat every 15 days, with the lights off, cage covered, and the food in the hide with her.

If you're willing to give a little extra TLC Dumeril's are very rewarding snakes to own and will quickly become a favorite in anyone's collection.

i picked up my dumerils the same place the serpent merchant picked his up from. awesome lil guys (for the mean time). they have that intimidating look but there sooo chill. mines still a little "flighty" when i try to get him out and the only time hes struck at me was during a feeding which is all my fault. but once theyre being handled theyre like puppies. once its feeding time though...whole other ball game lol. Get one! you will not regret it.

I own two short tailed pythons in my collection as well as a 400g female Dumeril. The dum is sweet and shy but a ferocious eater. Every one I have met has been easy to handle but a little nervous and I have only ever been bitten when I was mistaken for a rat. All short tails very alot, I have one Borneo who is very nervous but getting better with age, and a Sumatran that is sweeter then my ball python. I have read and heard that their personalities very (STPs that is) but that Sumatrans are possibly the calmest of the three species. In my opinion Boas and STPs are my all time favorite.. but for a first time owner.. Boas are def. the way to go. Dums are easy and Iv never seen one I thought was not gorgeous.
P.S look at more boas, there are alot of great things out there. My Orange Dream is the sweetest most beautiful thing ever good luck with whatever you choose

Is there a verdict on the average size of a male and female? From what I've read it's been:
Males: around 4-5 ft
Females: around 6.5

Does this sound about right?

Okay cool thanks. Like I said earlier, perfect size to be impressive, yet not too big where two people are needed to handle it
