Possible problem with rescue.

I picked up a rescue last night. But being only my second BP, and never having any real problems with my first I'm not sure I should be concerned. Vet visit is planned for Wednesday but I'm worried about in the mean time problems getting worse. She has an eye cap and I was told its been there for awhile, wouldnt give exact time and she didnt have a hide. Well I got her a hide and she isnt using it. Is there anything I should do or is this just because shes never had one. Shes a full grown adult.

Don't worry about the eye cap, trying to remove it can cause perminate damage to the eye itself.

Can you give us some information about your husbandry?

What type/size cage do you have, what heat sources you have, what you are using to measure temperatures/humidity, what your current temperatures/humidity

All you can do is put an appropriately sized hide in. Chances are she will use it.

SM has this one right I have had quite a number of rescues come though (on the board of rescue organization) The new rescue is often suffering from neglect and or abuse. They really need perfect husbandry and unless there is something pressing piece and quiet. Stress is a huge issue and typically they are stressed to the max. During my advanced animal emergency first aid course I did the term used was 'skillful neglect' Meaning if there is no great threat and basically the animal is in ok health just let it be.

Fresh water and humidity are important and correct temps CRITICAL. I often keep the enclosure in the dark way out of the way (closet works really well).

Remember do not use anything that will contact your snake. No tools your hands nothing I use a completely new set of duplicate tools that are tossed or go with that snake when forever homed. I scrub my hands before and after touching anything near the rescues enclosure. ideally in a different room if not as far as possible away. I keep this up for at least 6 months. No cross contamination. I also isolate the rescue with a bed of diatomaceous earth. QUARANTINE!!!

Is she sick? Or is it just the stuck eye cap? If its just that, you probably don't need to see a vet. Just keep your humidity high (60-70%) and it will be gone with the next shed. Trying to remove it can do more harm than good.

As for not using the hide, this is common with new snakes. It will take up to a week, possibly more for them to settle in.
