I always use them for hatchlings. Usually pull them when they are big enough to get "wedged" between the roof of the hide and the ceiling of the bin. I pull them now because I just got new tubs from FB that have the cool deli cup holders.. which the tubs are a dark grey color and literally no light comes through, hence acting like a hide.

When I still used hides however, id leave the hide in the enclosure while snake is hiding, and drop the rodent in instead of pulling the hide. I saw that with the added comfort of the hide, some of my stubborn eaters would eat pretty well. They'd use their hut as a little ambush tactic... and God help the rodent who wanted to see what was inside the hide, haha.
