I understand your situation. I'm originally from the Philippines and my whole family hates snakes when I was growing up but I was able to convince them in getting an Indian python. I told them that I will be responsible for everything including expenses for taking care of my snake.
Now that I have my own family, I let my kids enjoy my snakes. My wife hates them thoughGenerally, i think people from Asia are afraid of snakes.
