    Boaphile Rhinoraxx. Yay or nay?

Hi, one of my friends is currently looking for racking option since most of his snakes have outgrown their old ones. He has seven snakes which range from 3ft ball pythons to 6ft blood pythons. Would Rhinraxx be appropriate in this situation?

And in the future, when I am able to get snakes, are Rhinoraxx usually a good method of housing snakes? I've read that they come in with heating, so that would save some trouble setting them up.

    Does anyone have them?

    Thanks!

    Edit:
I've also heard that racks should only be used for 'professional breeders' and not when keeping snakes, just for pets. I plan on breeding some snakes in the future, but, my friend doesn't. I suggested racks because the amount of snakes he has, but I don't want to choose a bad option. Any help please?

I have one and I like it. With that said, Jeff's poor customer service is becoming legendary. There are several other options out there. I have since bought two Animal Plastics racks and like them very much. Anyone can use a rack, they are not just for the pros.

The Boaphile is on the right:

Does the AP rack come with a heating source in it? I'm just wondering since the Rhinoraxx one does and all. And now after hearing about the 'poor customer service' I think I'll find a different rack system haha. Are the prices comparable also? My friend would like to use up to $450 to spend, however, he can use more money if necessary.

Yes the AP comes with heat (shows it in the video).

AP racks are completely customizable. You can choose belly, back or no heat in most builds. Also if you email them you can get options not even listed on the site. Email them with what you need and they'll tell you if they can do it.

rhinoraxx's are great. The material is good, and it holds heat well.

I will personally never ever order a product from Boaphile again. Customer Service is absolute garbage. I ordered a rack back on April 13th and was told a 5 week hold time. Well i still dont have it, do the math. Everytime i call and talk to Jeff or whoever i get a differant answer on when it will be shipped and why it was delayed so much. The general response is "I'll send you the tracking when it goes out, didnt i just talk to you earlier this week".? Yes he did and told me it would be shipped out last week, apparently not. Ridiculous communication skills, regardless of how fantastic the actual product turns out. To top it all off, i guess i jumped the gun on ordering my snakes for that rack, because i thought it would be here. Now i have 5 snakes on hold with differant breeders and that sucks as well.

I've got both Boaphile rhinoraxx and AP Racks. Both come with heat, but the boaphile racks come completely assembled. You do have to assemble the Animal Plastics racks but it's not very difficult.

I've also heard that racks should only be used for 'professional breeders' and not when keeping snakes, just for pets. I plan on breeding some snakes in the future, but, my friend doesn't. Who told your friend this nonsense? Racks are for people who want an easy to clean, easy to heat, secure caging system that holds humidity well and makes the snakes feel more secure. They come with as few as three shelves. So really, racks are for people who have three or more snakes. However I would recommend a rack even to people who have only 1 or 2 snakes, just because it has three shelves doesn't mean you have to use them all. Racks are SO much better for your snake then an aquarium.

Re: Boaphile Rhinoraxx. Yay or nay?

@Travis: That's horrible. I hope you'll receive it soon, otherwise if I were you, even if you called already, I would keep on calling them persistently until it does come.

@Mark: My friend and I are youth volunteers (We're going to become senior ones next year since we're almost 18) at my local zoo, and we were talking to a snake owner over there while discussing housing. She said that if you ever have the option of getting racks or aquariums, aquariums are better. (Ball pythons and boas) I had my doubts since I've already done plenty of research on snakes (trying to become a zoologist with an emphasis on herpetology) and from what I know they like to be secure in a appropriate sized place with just enough hiding places so they don't overly stress. That and the native home for the ball python is termite mounds (?) and underground. But, I've never housed a snake before so I technically only have booksmart and handling skills, not housing.

Also, does anyone know of any good containers/racks that are sold in store? Perhaps a large chain store like Walmart, Ikea, etc.?

Thanks for all your answers so far guys, I really appreciate it

Aquariums are harder to heat (glass doesn't hold heat well) and because they're open at the top they don't hold humidity very well at all. The ONLY thing where aquariums have the advantage is in their visibility and that's only an advantage to the people who want to see the snake, not an advantage to the snake who only wants to stay hidden and secure.

Some arboreal snakes my be fine in an aquarium, but even then, aquariums generally aren't tall enough. Aquariums are designed for fish. If you want to keep snakes, get an enclosure that's designed for snakes.
