pet store saves

So theres an Anery Red Tail Boa at a local pet store that i saw the other day while looking for some mulch substrate. i notice that something looked a little off. the snakes tank had no heat lamp, no themometer or hygrometer and the smallest water dish you can buy at the store. the store owner said they turn a lamp on at night and put it away during the day to keep it from being stolen. and the snake will be fine the way it is. the snake seemed to be doing okay, but i cant see the temp or humidity being right at all. i feel bad that it has to live like that so im going to buy it when i get paid this week.

has anyone else ever done/seen this at pet stores?

I see stuff like that all the time, but Petsmart and Petco at least always have thermometers and hygrometers (they're dials, but nonetheless) in their displays. Is this a privately-owned store?

I honestly wouldn't recommend buying it to "save" it. Instead, pressure the store owner to fix the situation. Tell him that you're not willing to buy the snake in this condition and ask more questions about its husbandry and health. He probably won't like you, but maybe he'll learn something about customer satisfaction... or better yet, an animal's well-being.

I moat definitly have my local petstore I went to for the sane reason with my sin and ass they had 7 ball pythons in a ten gal covered with poo every single snake was extremely dehydrated looking wrinkly skin , exteremly thin every last one of them . It's so sad but I don't think most of the people at these stores even know how to properly care for them it broke my heart alsowish there was something that can be done to change this idk if calling humane society would do anything but I just hate to see any animals in an environmentike that

A lot of pet stores keep animals in sub par conditions because they try to flip them as fast as possible. No point in taking the time and effort to cater to an animals optimal needs when you're trying to sell it ASAP. This is unfortunately the mindset of a lot of pet stores. This is one of the reasons I haven't been to a pet store in years. If there is something I need that pet stores usually carry, I'll just order it online.

its a small privately owned pet store. my current boss sold the pet store to the owner and it went down hill real quick. i already talked to the owner about how the snake is being kept and she didnt seem to care. she also didnt seem to know too much about snakes. she said an anery red tail is about 2 feet shorter than a normal red tail when full grown.
im going to buy the snake regardless because im in the market for another snake and was looking into boa's for a while. they're only asking $100 for the snake and im pretty sure she said the tank is included.

You may save that snake, but you're really just encouraging them to replace it with another one.

I really would urge you not to buy an animal from this horrible business. By buying the snake, you would actually encourage their bad treatment of animals. They are getting away with neglect and ignorance, and they're getting away with money.

If it were me, I would do something sassy like purchase a couple thermometers from their store, but instead of walking out the door, I'd say "thank you!" and head towards the boa's display tank.

I certainly agree with you, but we both know the HSUS plays on that confusion to further their aims. Forewarned is forearmed.
