Incubator probe question

I have my incubator done and running but I got to thinking of where should I place the thermostat probe. And let's say I place it in the middle won't the eggs that are closer to the heat tape be warmer than the one more farther away?

That is why you need a fan to circulate the air in the incubator. Works like a convection oven.

In the middle in a tub (secured on the inside of the lid)

There is also a fan in the back (on the top) moving air around to prevent hot spot.

Temps variant from Top to Bottom is less than 2 degrees.

Do you use press'n'seal? Or do you just let the air flow through the top of the tubs?

Also, does the temp dramatically lower when you open the door?

I do not use press and seal, once the eggs are in the egg box I do not mess with them until one week prior to them pipping at that time I open the egg box every other day.

So you don't put the probe on the heat tape just let in hang in the middle of the incubator and then have another probe in one the the egg tubs?

The thermostat probe can go either on the heat tape or in the middle of the inc, we've done both ways and have had good luck with both ways.

No matter where you place the thermostat probe the temps will be warmer the closer the tub gets to the heat tape, even with good air flow.
This is why we changed both of our incubators to having a false wall in the back hiding the flexwatt from the rest of the incubator.
Last season our tubs were almost a full degree hotter on the ends of the tubs closest to the flexwatt, with the false wall we now have no hot spots anywhere in the incubator.

We don't use seal a meal either and use the same tubs Deb does. We actually add a few holes to those tubs to allow the tubs to breath a little bit. With a few air holes in the sides of the tubs we don't ever have to open the lid to let the tubs breath.

With water bottles in the incubator the temps return to where they are supposed to be fairly quickly, just don't leave the inc door hanging open for longer than needed.

Ok I got a fan but now the temps are off. I have my thermostat at 88 but the probe reads 90 and it stays like that. So where should I put the probe and where should I put the fan ? I'll post pics soon. Thanks

You can put the fan at the top of the bator blowing down. I put the probe in a tub with eggs in the middle of the bator.
