    calicos

I am looking to buy a calico. I have seen some for sale that are pretty low white. Do these get more white as they get older? If I get a low white calico will that produce mostly/only low white calicos? I have heard that it doesnt matter they will still produce a good range of low-high white calicos but I only heard this once in a different forum that I came across on the reptile report. I just want a little extra expert opinion on the matter. Thanks!

I don't think that they develop more white as they get older... but I could be wrong on that.

They won't develop more white, however what will happen is that the pink color you see on hatchings will actually turn into white. My calico is extremely high white and the sire that produced her has only 2 white scales. Chris Berrios (the breeder I got my calico from) says the amount of white is determined by the snake you pair the calico with.

Low white Calico's can produce high white calico's and high white Calico's can produce low white Calico's, just like in Pied's. Like the post above me said the pink parts in the snake can turn white and orange and develop as the snake grows with each shed. As an adult they generally do not get any more white. I have a Med white and I love her!

You are not seeing many high whites available right now because they have been sold. You will likely have to wait until the 2012's hatch and look for one with a lot of pink that will turn white. If you really want a lot of white, look into a Sugar.

The white will not spread beyond what is pink/white when they are babies. I agree that the consensus seems to be you can get high whites out of low whites and that is amplified if you put it into another animal that is already high white.

When the white does come in it is VERY white. I have a Calico Spider and her white are super bright. Pied bright.
