I agree with Aaron. Putting the aluminum tape over that leading edge should be fine.
Another option would be to get very thin wood shims and fix them over the flexwatt so the tub travels up the shims and never actually touches the flexwatt. There's a sticky here about that somewhere but I can't find it - maybe you'll have better luck, lol.
