I'm totally with you on every day being Snake Awareness Day. I think pretty much everyone I know is very aware of how much I like snakes. At work they call me "Snake Wendy" to differenciate me from the the other nurses named Wendy that work at our hospital! I'm sure some people think I'm kind of eccentric, but that's totally fine with me. I do think it's important to educate others about snakes when opportunities arise, to dispell myths and to let others know what cool animals snakes really are.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Snake Awareness Day, it is a new nation-wide campaign that has come about this year as an effort to educate the public about snakes, clear up misconceptions and hopefully help to prevent more of these silly bans that misinformed people with irrational fears of snakes are supporting. Anyway, most of the Snake Awareness Day stuff is coming together on Facebook. The main Snake Awareness Day Facebook page can be found at the following link: Snake Awareness Day. Amost every state has its own Snake Awareness Day Facebook page as well. I intitiated the one for Oregon. Click on my link in my signature to take a look. If you are a Facebook person, I would suggest doing a search for the Snake Awareness Day page from your state to see what the the people close to you are planning and maybe find out if you can participate. "Like" and "share' the page from your state to show your support for raising public awareness about snakes. I would also suggest you take a look at the main Snake Awareness Day page and "like" it and those of other states to show support and to receive updates. It's an easy way to get the word out and raise awareness that something like Snake Awareness Day even exists and to let people know that there are plenty of people who think snakes are awesome!
