temp gun accuracy
I am starting to think temp guns are crap. I have a smart sensor ar300 temp gun, and I have been relying on it to test the temperature on the hot end and cool end of the tubs. However, today, I went in a room, tested around and it came up 85F on average. The room had air conditioner on. I turned the air conditioner off, and I tested again in a few minutes, and the room was average 82F! Now that is just weird. I then went online to search about temp gun accuracy and a lot of people on race car forums are saying even with the most expensive temp guns they are never the same, often off by 10F. The average ones often off by as much as 30F! Even if it says accurate within +- 2F or something on the box. Now this is worrisome as we are trying to fine tune something like between 88 and 90F.
DISCUSS LOL

Re: temp gun accuracy
By the way, it seems as if I started testing a cool spot, everything else tests a few degrees cooler in that testing session. However, if I start testing something warm, like a computer screen or a light, everything I test subsequently seems to test hotter...

I have a temp gun from Reptile Basics that works great. Good +/- 2. It also depends how far away your taking the reading and the surface the laser is projecting off of.

You def won't get an accurite reading off glass(computer screen).

I am not trying to get an accurate reading of the computer screen, I am saying that it seems that the initial test point if hot or cold seems to affect the other readings I do afterwards for a while.

My temp gun explicitly says that it is only accurate from 6 inches an under. And it's been right there with my other old school thermometers. So I have no complaints. I got mine form Home Depot ages ago.
