Incubation questions

I have a converted refrigerator incubator. I am wondering if it is safe for the eggs if I look in on them once in a while. The temp gets down to abou 84 when I open it. My eggs are a little thin so I want to check on them once every couple days or so just want to make sure it is safe. Thanks

Fill some 2-liter bottles with water and put them in the bottom of the incubator (caps on). They will store heat and help your incubator return to temp faster once you close the door again, since the water will lose heat slower than the air.

Also how long does it take for you incubator to return to its set temps after you close it? You don't want it to drop alot when you have to open it, but it's alot more important for it to return to a stable temp as quickly as possible once you have closed it.

I had the same problem with the same setup. thanks for the 2 liter tip! I put heavy duty plastic down the front of the shelves so it contains the heat when I open the door and that helped a bunch. it only drops about 2 degrees with that. but a pain when its time to vent or remove clutches.
