In fact every professionally made rack (PVC, Melamine, other) has been assembled with screws and not nails.
Now using the right size/kind of screws is very important. 1/2" long socket cap machine screws aren't going to cut it, but 2-3 inch long #10 partial board screws on the other hand would make that rack as sturdy as a rock.
