How bad would it be, to just let the female incubate her own eggs? I don't have an incubator, and haven't setup any plans to make mine yet. If by say she was about to lay fert/eggs, could she safely take care of them for the 50+ days?

Maternal Incubation can be done. The biggest issue that I have heard of people running into is being able to keep the humidity up for the full 60 days.
Also, when letting the female incubate herself you are losing 2 additional months of feeding the female and possibly getting her ready for the next breeding season.
