    Hidden Gene, explaination?

I have recently gotten in to BPs and I have seen stuff about hidden gene Womas or hidden gene spiders, lessers ect.
Can anyone explain what this "hidden gene" is? It really confuses me.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I believe they are referring to a gene that is expressing itself within the mutation but has not been singled out by itself or if it is it looks normal and needs to be paired up with the original gene in order to express itself again. IDK. Dont know much about hidden gene womas, never heard of a hidden gene spider, and the hidden gene that was acts with the lessers is the daddy gene, het daddys look normal and need to be paired with a lesser for the gene to be expressed and to make more platy daddys. Essentially it is assumed that their is another "hidden" gene expressing itself within a certain mutation causing a "different" look than what the gene would normally look like. Hopefully someone else can explain this better and correct my amateur lacking explaination.

From what I understand a hidden gene woma is a completely different morph that looks like a woma. When It was first worked with they though it was a woma with a 'hidden gene' because it reacts differently with other genes. (hidden gene woma x lesser = soul sucker but woma x lesser = lesser woma)

This is another one of these topics with dozens of pages going back and forth. I would do a search here and on the other boards and sit back and do some reading.

It is not hidden, the snake is visually different from a normal. It just happens to look like another morph. The woma and hidden gene woma look the same. The woma was first, when something like it was imported again it was assumed to be the same thing. When different combos started being produced it was labeled hidden gene. They looked the same but one did more. Now it is understood that they are two different mutations but look the same. But the name Hidden Gene Woma has stuck. I like to call them HGWs to help differentiate the two.
