I also suggest getting a female first in case you decide to breed. because it will take longer to get up to breeding size than the males. As for being in Canada check out Marcus Jayne reptiles. i've seen some really nice animals from there. also hit some reptile expos. you may even find something you like better. good luck and happy herping!
Ahaha, I know what you mean about not getting just one, that's what happened with me and my Leos; I kind of want to get a 5th one now [and I don't even breed them, they're just so awesome and adorable, lol]
I'm starting to get disappointed that I probably won't be able to check out the local expo here in May... well, I might but it's a bit too soon to be bringing any more reptiles home, so being tempted won't help me at all [I really gotta work on moving out, there's no more room in my bedroom XD]
And yea, Markus Jayne has some awesome stuff, but not much to oogle at on their website as far as "available" snakes go, I saw their BPs at an expo a couple years ago, nice.

Meh, pretty much the standard reason, I just don't think I'd be comfortable having a snake like that.

Ooh, that one looks nice. I had been looking on the World of Ball Pythons morph list and saw some of these that stay black and some that are brown o.O The greyer/blacker ones look nicer to me, but I bet they cost more ^^;

Yea, that site is awesome, been doing most if my research for image references between that site and google I've been using the CRBE vendors list to check out some [Canadian] breeders that have websites as well. Not sure if I should be asking around for breeders just yet, I think I should have an enclosure ready for it/them first :p

Cinnamons can be outstanding, and are reasonably priced. Black Pastel are similar, and priced about the same. If you have no intention of breeding then Axanthic is out of the question, because you are extremely unlikely to find a visual in your price range.
You can find what are known as IMG balls, these have increased melanin, and are quite dark in some cases.
Have you looked into Pinstripes? They can be quite attractive, and one with a busy pattern should be close to what you had in mind. And within your budget. How about Mojaves ? They can be beautiful and are affordable.
You are correct in thinking taxes/customs and such will almost certainly put any ball purchased in the states in the same price range as one you find there.

o.O What is an IMG BP? *goes to google* They seem to be random, not really a morph... How would you know you have one? XD
To be honest at first glance most Mojaves look kinda Normal to me ^^; Pinstripes aren't too exciting for me either, lol.
Stupid Taxes and customs and ...bleh. Well looks like I'm stuck with whatever finds it's way up here in Canada then, I'll just have to keep looking.
