Be very careful with wet cloth, as mentioned, an open weave!! Close weaves (high thread counts) can close and become quite air tight when wet. I don't bother personally, but if I was to do so I would use a scallop bag instead. They are very course unprocessed cotton you can look see through it as it is so course a weave it has as much open air as thread.
