    OhMyRegurge.

    Argh.

I swear I thought I was going to be sick and pass out.

We bought Munch a good 3 weeks or so ago, and he's been living happily in his tub since then. We were meant to get a viv (because Grant would rather have a viv to put him in) but the guy who was giving it to us took a lot longer than we thought he would. That's no worries he's got the viv as of yesterday.

Munchs eyes went blue a few days ago, so we bumped his humidity up a bit. We kept an eye on it because I've not had a tub dweller before and I didn't want it looking like a rainforest, so just wanted to get it right...

Picked up the viv yesterday. Got back to Grants with it. Grant goes upstairs and takes it (the viv) up in parts, and Im following him up...when he yells down the stairs that Munchs tub is soaked.
So I leg it upstairs...and its not just soaked it is drenched.
Opened the tub, and the stench was foul. Thats when I saw the water bowl...nice big crud in that.

But the regurgitated half-rat was what caught Grants eye. Munch wasn't sticking his head out of his hide as usual. Grant lifted up the hide...he didn't move. He stroked him...he didn't move.

I'm ashamed to admit, I burst into tears. We did everything right... temps and feeding etc.
I kept on at this guy about the vivarium, but (nobodys fault) he just couldn't get his new one soon as he thought.

So i'm stood over the viv, crying my eyes out and then - the little mongoloid moved his head and looked at me like "What's your problem?"...so I cried more?

Our friends round the corner with the wide selection of snakes (well, that they can fit in their living room) came bombing round to the house and checked him over. Said he's okay, suggested missing a feed. Told me I looked like an emo clown in my brightly coloured dress and black mascara streaming in waves down my face...

I just don't understand how the humidity was fine when we were monitoring it but we're out for one night, we come back and he's living in a fish tank Cleaned everything out thoroughly, especially his water bowl and the tub.

*Sigh* I hate to think of him being stressed. He's eating fine and he's lovely to handle and we don't handle him too often...temperatures are right. He's not looking as dehydrated as he was when we got him home.

Still feeling like someone's smacked me in the face with a wet fish on this one.

Definately miss more than just one feed.

Wait two weeks. Feed a very small meal
Wait two weeks if he holds it Down. Feed another small meal
Wait two weeks if he holds it bump the prey a bit
If he holds that resume feeding as Normal.

Most important is trying to figure out why he regurged. Was the prey possibly too big? Could a heat spike have happened? Do you feed in the cage or out?
Those are the most common reasons for regurges.

    Ok thank you, 2 weeks

    Right:
He's eaten this size rat before and held it down BUT this is only the second time he has eaten this rat because before the previous feed he was onlt taking jumbo mice (at the reptile store)

A heat spike COULD have happened but there's no way of knowing as we were out of the house for 28 hours.

We do feed in the cage, he's never had a problem before.

Awww sorry to hear that. Theres a write up on regurges, done by richsballpythons, in the bp husbandry section i believe. Its called "regurge guide". Give that a read.
I would wait 3-4 weeks before attempting to feed again. It gives them plenty of time for their bacteria and intestinal system to get back to normal.
Picturing you as an emo clown was rather entertaining tho lololol. I know, im evil >

    Thanks guys

Hey, any other situation and Grant would have had his camera out and posting Aimee the Emo Clown all over the gaff...

Only remotely funny part was seeing Grant urging over the nice steamer munch left. First time encounter with snake poop

Maybe I'm off base here, but the regurged rat could have bumped the humidity too. It seems I can tell in my tubs when anyone relieves themselves cause there is a little condensation on the side of the tub. Most the time when I open that tub there is always some sort of present waiting on me. Just a thought that your humidity may not have been off before the regurge.

A good friend of mine/exceptionally bright BP Breeder, Brian Grundy, from "For Goodness Snakes" helped me the last time I had a regurge. He was a vet tech for an exotic vet for quite a long time and has been keeping and breeding Balls for ever.

My normal girl I gotten from a private party had not eaten for the first 6 months I got her. All husbandry in this rack was spot on in that all the other animals in this rack were eating fine and were very healthy. Well she finally took a decent size mouse one day (she wkas around 1600g at the time). Btw, I know what u mean about the smell.. I think that was the worst.. ever. Lol. Poor thing. Anywho, this is what Brian told me:

He said that anytime he had seen this happen in his animals or others while working at the clinic, 90% of the time they would find some kind of parasite in the feces. He told me to give this a shot, and ir it didn't work then no harm no foul and let it rest for a month and try feeding again.

Told me to go to the local feed store and pick up a product called Panacure, which is a parasite/worm eradicate'r for horses or other livestock. Its a white cream that comes in an oversize syringe with a plastic nozzle. He had me hold her behind the head and stick the end of this nozzle into the back of her throat (gently obviously) and administer around a teaspoon or so. Then repeat every 5 days I believe for a month.

Once I did this, I tried another meal and she has been thriving and eating well ever since.

Id definetly just try another meal a month from now before doing this and see if she keeps it down. If there's another regurge then it might be worth a shot. Best of luck and I hope u are able to figure it out!

As stated above there are obviously other things that can cause this. I.E. heat spikes, stress, etc. I just wanted to relay what worked for me. Sorry about the novel!

Sorry to hear this, Cherry. I don't think it was anything in your husbandry. I could have been a bad rat.

Yeahhhh this wasn't a "little condensation", we couldn't even SEE into the tub :/ When I say soaked...I mean soaked... I can't see that half rat making the humidity rise so high it would drench the tub in condensation. It had no head, no tail...was just a bottom and a back set of legs!

No worries on the novel, I'm just soaking it all up. Unfortunately, I don't think there is anywhere round here that sells that sorta stuff, but I'll have a looksee anyway, I'm not in the USA and finding it ridiculously hard to find accurite thermometer/hygrometers too (the ones i got were completely useless), so to the internet I go! I'm always learning. Read Richs regurge recovery guide so gonna read that again too.

Thanks Slim At the time it was so easy to just blame myself and not look at the bigger picture but once I calmed down, and stopped looking so much like a blubbering lollipop, it was easier to look at what could have happened. If a harsh change in humidity could make a snake regurgitate I think that might have been it, just because that tub was like someone had sprayed tonnes of water all round the sides...Think petri dish...

And...you could have been a bad rat Slim?
