    Aspen sani chips mites?

I know that there is a risk of getting mites from cypress mulch, but is there a possibility of getting mites from aspen sani chips? This is from the Harlan company.

I'm pretty sure mites can come in any substrate. Only takes one pregger female to hitch a ride in yur substrate...

Reptile mites live on reptiles, not substrate.

This is true but they are mobile and can hitch a ride on almost anything, including substrates.

Exactly, on anything. Your more likely to have some jump on you at a reptile expo then have them come in on your packaged substrate. I don't think substrate should get half the blame it does for carrying mites.

I use sani-chips. No mites ever.

Like everyone said, certain types of substrate do not inherently harbor mites. Mites can certainly appear as a result of infested substrate, but they don't just materialize in it.

Buying your substrate at a reptile store or PETCO can also bring mites with it. You can get them on yourself from attending a show or even going into a PETCO or petsmart and touching things in the reptile area. That's why I always carry hand Sanitizer and after a show my clothes go straight into the wash and I'm into the shower. I hate the little buggers...
