Exploding Mice...

The past few times i have unthawed to feed, the mouse ends up with insides on the outside. I use the same method as alway and let them warm up in water, with the mouse inside a zip lock bag. It starts off with just a little pin sized hole in the stomach where a little blood comes out, but when the snake constricts, it turns into Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Not only is it a nasty mess, but the substrate sticks to the prey item and i would love to avoid that. Any ideas on why this might happen?

Most of the time when that happens I have found that I was because I thawed the prey out to fast. I pull mine out the night before and let it thaw out slowly, and since I started to do that I haven't had the exploding rat problem.

Usually thawing them too quickly does that. Maybe you just got a bad batch.

I had this happen once. I usually just throw mine in hot tap water (no bag), changing the water every few minutes and its always been fine. The one that blew I had thawn in the fridge overnight and its guts spilt everywhere. Anyway, try teaking your thawing method and see what works.

If this has happened more than once, I would start to suspect the freezing method that was used by your supplier. Can you source some mice from a different supplier and see if you still have the same problem? Could just be a bad batch.
