Pastel male prefers f/t rats
Last week I could not locate any f/t rats anywhere so I had to resort to a live rat for my pastel male. He would not eat it. He followed it everywhere it went but would just not touch it. This week I had a f/t rat and bam, he took it with gusto. Has anyone ever had this happen? I just thought it was rather funny.

If he won't take live, Pre kill it. And yup one of mine acts terrified of live, yet pounds f/t like its going out of style.

I am just not comfortable with prekilling a rat. I am afraid I would not do it correctly and cause the animal undue harm.

Wouldn't be more undue then being constricted to death Once I am done with the Frozen I have in the freezer I am switching to Fresh kill rats, more so for my convenience then the snakes but I also believe that being fresh the nutrients might be higher

I guess you can say your snake is truly switched over when it won't take live anymore
It's a problem I wish I had with my Pastel Lesser...so far, that kid won't look twice at anything that doesn't have a pulse...my saga with him continues...

I completely understand. It's one thing when feeding live to your snake, and another when you have to kill the rat for the snake. If its taking f/t there's no point in fresh killed. I was just throwing out a option on what to do with that live one you have he won't take.

I have the same problem with my mojave if it isn't running around around doing rodent stuff she doesn't want it. She refuses to be fooled by my tong dance.

Thank you for your understanding. Having to deal with a live rat is not a problem because my female normal is a garbage disposal and eats everything and anything I have left.
