Dumerils stay smaller and so do rainbows. Another option would be a male BCI - they don't usually get past six feet in length and can live happily in a 2 x 4 x 1 (L x W x H).
All of these have nice temperaments, although rainbows can be slightly snippy as babies but that usually gets better as they get older.
