Our nearly 7 year old leo has had a rough couple of years. We lost our apartment and had to move around a bit, including one place that preferred we feed giant mealworms to having "more alive" insects around. She got a little overweight and ended up doing an extended fast instead of her usual handful of months, but we've been able to leave her in one place for a year (but not with us) and she'll stay until we buy a house this summer.
She was so healthy and maintaining weight during her fast (we took her to the vet when she was 3yrs for an extended fast and everyone was really nice, but also quietly laughing at us because we had brought in, in their words, the most healthy gecko they'd ever seen) we didn't know what to do. Come January her urates changed a little bit and we asked our friend who just passed his vet boards to come take a look and gave her a very thorough exam and came back confused as everything came back ok - he spoke to one of his trusted mentors and she gave us the same speech of wait and watch. (But at least I knew for sure her calcium was normal, I was getting worried.) Shortly after her exam she began eating intermittently, but still hasn't completely bounced back.
2 weeks ago she had a rare bad shed and I was putting some shed product on her and didn't notice anything wrong, but this Sunday we noticed either some swelling on the side of her mouth or something wrong with her jaw. We are taking her in to our old vet thursday morning, but I'm very scared.
I hate to seem like such a wuss, but we had to put our first leo to sleep when we made a major life decision to move in together. (A pre-existing condition we had no idea he had and treatment didn't work.) We just made the biggest life decision a week ago by getting married and now not only can I not enjoy that, I'm worried history is going to repeat itself. I know, I know, we've done everything but I could really use some bp.net support. Thanks in advance...
How can you say no to this face?
