    Question Good deal or what??

Ok so I been doing alot of thinking and trying to get my breeding plans in order. To start out I bought a 0.1 Fire and a 1.0 Spider to go with my collection. As you can see by my sig I traded the 0.1 fire for a 1.0 Black Pastel 100% het Orange Ghost and a 0.1 100% het Orange Ghost. Thinking I did a good trade for that part, what ya think? Then just a few days ago I traded the 0.1 het og for a 1.0 100% het Pied to go with my 0.1 100% het pied. The het og was 250gr. The 1.0 het pied is 1135gr. Again good trade? Now I have decided to go with my het pieds as pairing, then I want to make bees or pewters so I need female pastels. I'm needing to figure out what a fair price of trade I shoul look to get out of my 1.0 black pastel 100% het og. He's 250+gr. What is a fair price/trade? I was offered a 0.1 pastel as a straight trade but is it worth it?

Ok, lots of stuff happening in that paragraph, and I'm not sure I was able to follow all of it.

I do know there's no way I'd trade your Black Pastel male for a Pastel female in a straight trade. I wouldn't even look a that trade twice.

If you need a female Pastel for your projects, why not just purchase one? They really aren't that expensive...even with some size on them.

Ok so even with the 1.0 het pied, 1.0 reduced, 1.0 spider and the 1.0 cinnomon, I should keep the 1.0 black pastel and just buy 0.1 pastels? I know for sure my het pied are getting paired. I just want to make sure I have good investment animals...

I think your first trade was fair if the fire was still a hatchling size. 1 female fire for a male BP het. Ghost + female het ghost. Females never get obsolete. However, that puts you male heavy. You always want to be female heavy. If your female fire was breeding weight, I would have kept her....

However, I don't agree with your second trade: Female het ghost to male het pied.
Now you're male heavy and have no females to breed him to (unless your het pied female is up to breeding weight).
Male normal hets get obsolete FAST. The moment you get a visual, it's going to be hard to rehome him. I believe you should have just gotten a visual male pied to start off with. It's more economical in the long run. They're pretty cheap these days. I've seen male pieds as low as $600.
Plus theres less risk with wondering if a normal baby is a het or not.
With a visual male, you are guaranteed that all offspring will carry the pied gene. With a het x het breeding, all of the babies will be labeled 'possible het pied' unless the markers are vastly obvious. And that makes it a little more difficult to rehome.

As for the male BP het ghost to pastel female. It really depends. How large is she? How about quality? If she's a dirty browned out pastel of the same size, I would pass. The BP het ghost has a lot of potential. And pastel female hatchlings are really cheap. However, if she's up to breeding weight, I might trade for it.

Well, I'm not telling you what you should do, I'm just telling you what I'd do.

What you keep depends largely on what projects you are interested in. You must have picked up the Black Pastel for a reason, right? And BTW, your Black Pastel is a smoker!

And, you've probably seen me say it before on this Forum, but there is a worth in these animals that goes beyond the investment value.

Well. It's really all personal preference, but I would get more females. Maybe a mojave or lesser female? Mojave/lesser black pastels look fantastic.

You made the comment investment animals. When talking investment animals that means setting yourself up with what animals will pay off the best. In my oppinion with the stuff you have going on i would do black pastel to pied stuff. Thos will pay off and you will have offspring you can sell.

If you want to breed i highly suggest getting a crapload more females lol. If you choose to trade away a couple of males then i would keep the black pastel. Im a cinny guy all the way but your black pastel is amazing looking.
