    BIG Hike Today!!!

Me and a friend of mine are leaving around 2pm in an attempt to hike the entire Loyalsock Trail (roughly 60 miles) in under 24 hours. We will be hiking roughly 12 hours tonight in the dark using headlamps. This trail is known for its treterous inclines and declines and is the most humbling trail I have ever hiked.

I have attempted it one other time (last May), but failed after a tornado and two sleepless nights of severe thunderstorms. This year we are looking at temps in the low 20's, so hypothermia is a genuine concern w/ the spikes and drops in our body temps during the hike.

Hopefully I will be able to come on here sometime Saturday to update you guys on the outcome! I'm getting pumped and nervous!

    Good luck Jordan!

Quite a feat you're attempting! I do a lot of backpacking and 60 miles in 24 hours is really difficult. Not trying to be a naysayer, but 2.5 miles/hour under good conditions is a good pace, in cold weather for 24 straight hours that is crazy fast!

Let us know how it goes - I'm impressed with your goal alone!

I'll go ahead and assume role of naysayer. That's not possible...

    Re: BIG Hike Today!!!

That's one heck of a hike. My best is near 40 miles in 24 hours. Good luck.

To the naysayers, that type of distance is definitely possible for the right person. Hopefully Demmballs has it.

Agreed with bio teacher. In strenuous environments with lots of elevation gains you do well to hit an average pace around 2-3 mph going up. The most I've attempted in a day was 19 miles of connecting trails in north Carolina in the smoky mountains. I was beat after that and we were only on the trails for 9 hours. Good luck to you man hope the outcome surpasses the odds!
