When you cut your eggs......
So for those of you who do cut your eggs how do you do it? Do you leave a big window with a flap over it, do you cut a small window with a flap? Big no flap what?
What day do you cut and how long does it take for your babies to come out?
I am excited. I cut on day 54 (now day 57) and my little guys are still not wanting to come out. I did peek again and it looks like I got 2 black pastels and 2 mojaves for sure, but not sure what the other ones are.
1:1 Mojaves 1:1 Cinnamon :1 Pinstripe :1 Spider :6 Normal :1 Albino 1: Butter :1 pastel :1 yellow belly :1 100% het albino

I wait until the first baby pips it's egg. Then I cut a 1-2 inch slit in each egg. The next day I usually make the cut larger with a flap if they haven't come out yet.
I always wait until the first pip but I cut it large enough to get a good look inside for morph and any problems. Like a wrapped umbilicus.
Some people cut way earlier than first pip which I never do. In those cases they generally cut a smaller hole so it doesn't dry out. You often need to add distiller water daily to each egg if you cut too early. There really is no reason to cut early though. In every average clutch, there will always be at least one that pips it's own egg.

Oh, and I usually get my first pip by day 55 anyway so that's when I cut. The babies are usually all out within 24 hours. Sometimes 36.

I cut a window with a flap until they have their heads out and are breathing air. Once they do that I cut the flap off and open the egg up more, just because I want to see what they look like. Cutting a flap means you can close it back up and it's easier to keep the moisture in, you don't want them to dry out.
This is how I cut them once their heads poke out, just so I can peel it back and look at them a bit better. Before this stage there is just a little slit that I try to do in a V shape.

Once they start coming out

i usually start with a u or v shaped slit and then after a day or 2 cut the top off the egg. it really depends on what stage they are in when i make my first cuts. some times the whole top comes off right away other times its 3-4 days after.

After they start pipping I just cut a small V so I can make sure everything is ok and see what we got.
