Questioning my Vet

So when i brought Barry to the Vet on the 6th of March, i had gotten him a few weeks earlier, he gave him a clean bill of health...but when i asked him about Humidity and Temps, he told me that the Humidity in the house would be fine, and that i only needed to spray down the cage once a week ..that basically low humidity would be fine ...and he then asked me if i " had gotten one of those hot rocks for the belly heat "..not warning me about them...but actually asked me if that was my source...like it was ok...

This information goes against everything i have read and asked...but appearnetly this guy is the snake expert at my place...

I was wondering what experience people have had with Vets..and are most of them clueless?...

I of course have not followed any of his advice..

x2. I reallllyyyy hate the fact that some vets just say stuff and tell you things to sound smart even though they have NO clue what theyre talking about...

Aparently, he is not.

Finding a good Vet can be a real chore. My best advise is to keep looking and if a Vet tells you something that you know isn't right, don't be afraid to find another one. Good Luck!

Sadly this is a poor vet. You are better off with a vet whom admits they have limited knowledge but will look and work WITH you to help solve problems together. Often the doctorate degree makes people feel like they are an expert even when they are not, also often they will disregard experience of the owner / enthusiast. I would drive around to some local vets (no animals) and ask to speak with the vets and let them know you are looking for a new vet and ask about their willingness to work with you to sole issues with the snakes. If you cannot find a reputable exotic vet. There are too many horror stories from vets trying to help when they have no idea of what is going on.

Many vets are clueless when it comes to snakes. Hopefully you can find a decent one. Always trust what you know though, sometimes you have to do what you know is best and disregard the bad info from that vet.

Vets are a lot like doctors, you get some good ones, some bad ones, and some great ones. Not many vets are willing or able to say that in a majority of cases, husbandry is the major cause of illness, not an inherent problem with the reptile. A truly great vet (and they're out there) will tell you that no matter how many antibiotics or creams you use, if you don't fix the inherent problems in the cage, the snake will not get better, or will just continually get sick again.

I'd be looking around for a new vet. Don't be afraid to go to the vet, sit down and talk with them before you need to take your animal to see them. If you don't trust what your vet is saying, and continue to see that vet, it will no doubt lead to a terrible experience for you and potentially an awkward experience for all parties involved.
