I love this bit.. "If you are thinking about getting an animal, visit a reputable seller or rescue centre, not a website." Wonder how may reputable seller's don't have website.. ignorance through and through..

P.S. this happened in the U.K for all our USA members.

What a load of crap! I love the last paragraph.

"Sophie Adwick, exotics and trade officer for the RSPCA, said: "This shocking case shows just how easy it is to order an exotic animal via the internet. If you are thinking about getting an animal, visit a reputable seller or rescue centre, not a website.""

Not everyone lives down the road from a reputable seller and who is to say that the person they purchased this snake from isn't? LOTS of reputable breeders sell online so they can reach a larger clientele. It is common practice, at least here in the states.

Why did they open the package in the first place? Is this illegal or something? I'm confused.

It's so sad to know that the lack of ignorance is causing all this new legislation.. Whatever happened to people requiring factual evidence produced by real professionals?

Re: Python in the post discovered at Stansted Aiport

    Hi,

Yes it is illegal to ship snakes using the standard postal service. The same as it is illegal to use the USPS to ship snakes.

Sadly over here we have nothing like shipyourreptiles.

Only one company ( TNT ) ships reptiles and it needs an account in the same way Fedex does over there. The only snag being they have stopped creating any new accounts.

So any snake shipped over here needs to go via an individual with the correct permits to be a licenced courier.

Most do an excellent job in specially kitted out vehicles - but it is not an inexpensive process so some people will always try and risk cutting corners and shipping illegally.
