    Once you Pop...

    You can't stop

Nothing to do with popping It's about Pringle, our new 18month old Male Het Pied Normal BP

Such a cutie, such a dopey thing. We got him home today, he's currently residing in a tub, temps are all good, UTH is working, and the first thing he did when he got out of his travel box was explore Grants bed, then Grants beard and then decided he wanted a nice long drink - Which I might made me melt into a puddle of gooeyness it was so freakin cute. He fed last Thursday but obviously not gonna go ahead and try and feed him straight away. We need to settle him down, and figure out a plan of action for switching to rats, as apparently he won't take them and is still on jumbo mice...

    To do:
-Switch from pesky dial thermometers to digital thermo/hygro one
-Get a bigger tub (too cramped I reckon) until friend comes through with viv (We are set on getting the viv now, though I am more than likely switching Pretzel to a tub)

Anyway. You guys seem full of sound advice. Here goes.
When I got Pretzel, she was chilled as anything, I left it to feed her. I handled her as little as possible. She wasn't awfully twitchy or anything, she just hid away. With Pringle we've done the same... however...He seems really jumpy and if you go near the tub he sticks his head and neck right out then back in again (not striking) - Is he just hungry? I feel I ought to know this, not like he's my first! I know all snakes are not the same too. I just worry. Over worry.

Also he has these marks on his side, I'm going to post pics up when I can. They look like scars. Not sure if they're bite scars or burn scars. No help with no pic I know...They're all kinda jagged and pure white. Pics soon.

Anyway dead happy with him. Can't wait to get him properly settled

Congrats on the new pickup and welcome to the addiction...

As for The behavior, he could be hungry or could just be curious. I would go ahead and try to feed him. He may just surprise you.

Definitely post pictures of those marks. White scars sound like deep tissue wounds, deep enough to have gone through scale and skin, possibly caused by rat bites...

Thank you Already fallen in love with ANOTHER one...haha. So addictive. Trust me to have two addictive and expensive hobbies...

Only a bit wary about feeding him because the shop said not to feed 'til next week and the general advice seems to be to leave them for a week...Hmmm.

As for the rat bites I am SO glad you said that. I have got no idea how snakes think about things after they get attacked, and I've no idea who had him before the store either, but - and tell me please if I'm being silly - could it be the reason he won't eat rats now? Garrrrgh there's laws against live feeding here I believe. So that might not even have happened.

    Now I'm ranting and panicking
Think I'm trying to set my other half at rest mostly...he's convinced he's going to do it all wrong and he's totally in love with the little guy.

Oh believe me, I spoke to my friend at the reptile store earlier - We're already planning a trip to Germany in August xD
If I had the money for more, I'd get more. Unfortunately we're looking for our first place together at the moment and I'm after a new job lol! Any money I get goes on rent, hospital travel and Pretzel&Pringle loool.

Okay so... Last night after sorting him out in yet another tub (attempting to cause as little stress as possible here...) because the last one was way too small, we decided to try and feed him.

He was on jumbo mice, as the store did say he wouldn't take rats. So we bought a couple of jumbo mice just in case and the store gave us a fluff too so we could try him on it. We tried him on the fluff straight away... and he took it first strike, gulped it down like he'd never tasted anything better!!!

Very happy. Proud much? Yes. I think so.

Definitely. Especially when you've been told that he won't take rats, and you're expecting him to reject it and then he takes a rat first time!! He'll be a bit weightier soon enough with any luck

It's been two months... I'm holding out on another the best I can but boy is it sure tempting. This topic is a discouragement, now I know I'm fighting a losing battle

In all seriousness, congrats on getting him to take the rat! And congrats on your new boy, I'm sure he'll settle in just fine. Now you just gotta get him nice and fat.

Hehehe Thank you! It was all him. We were ready for scenting and all sorts but he was just "GIMME RAT NAOW!" and proceeded to chow down!
